Screenshot of a track on Google Earth, and try to set up the perfect racing line? (this one isn’t 100% correct)

Kinja'd!!!

For the record, this track runs counterclockwise afaik

And if anyone has any suggestions... either insights into what I’m doing wrong or places to do next...

I’ve messed with this concept a little bit. In practice, it hasn’t made much of a difference in my actual line on track. Seems getting the line right for me is more about feel than knowing where it actually is.

Regardless, I think it’s a good way to familiarize yourself with a new track!

I doubt it would (never gone to this particular place), it’s hard to visualize what you planned when you’re racing. That and you can’t really take account of elevation changes and banking.

It’s fun though!

I’ve done it for track layout. Not sure about the value in choosing a line, because elevation and surface changes are another big part of that, and I’m sure there are other factors too.

I doubt there’s any value in it. You’re never going to remember your plan on the spot anyway. I found it interesting though.

There is a TON of value in this, if you’re looking at autocross courses instead of actual tracks, and you can verify your line somehow to see if you got it “right”.

If you can remember your planned line.

Do some regions have permanent autoX courses?

Well, what I mean is that if you draw a line, it’s valuable to look and see whether it matches what a Nationals guy did, especially if they’re in the same class. It doesn’t have to be for a course that you actually run; just practice identifying the quickest autoX line, which will make it easier when you’re doing the real thing.

You have more spare time than I do but this is exactly the kind of thing I might do if I had more spare time so carry on! ;)
